macOS 16 Wishlist: 10 Features We'd Love to See in Apple's Next Major Update (macobserver.com)

LOL these are all garbage suggestions. What we really want is no new changes to the UX, but rather a focus on performance and tightening down system services to ensure less CPU and RAM utilization in addition to bug fixing.

Further, most people who use desktop systems, want a return to some older paradigms.

The person who wrote this article is out of touch with reality.

There are a plethora of ways to have pasteboard/clipboard history and even share it. Pastebot is my main choice, but PastePal is another good one.

>6. Safari improvements

I often use Safari on my iPhone and iPad without any issues, but as soon as I open a few tabs on my MacBook Air, it’s a whole different story. Just three or four tabs and bam, I would experience slowdowns and performance issues in Safari, especially web pages with multimedia content. It displays that annoying significant energy message, and then I’m stuck in a lag loop. This happens every single time. As soon as I switched to Chrome, it loads all the web pages without any issues. I hope Apple finally notices this issue and macOS 16 offers a lag-free growing experience in Safari.

Safari on macOS has been absolutely appalling for the past 10 years. And yet most people dont say anything about it. And media dont cover it.

Strange, I have Safari open on my 8GB Base Model M1 Mac mini with 30+ tabs all the time.

Once your Tabs go over certain number of active tabs. There are people with hundreds of Tabs. And Safari doesn't do Tab Sleep. Instead it put those tabs in the background as active but low priorities, works well when they fit within Memory and some paging. Stop working when it is above that. Tab Overview will also cause every single Tab to be re-rendered.

Video Playing is also another problem especially with Youtube. Having Youtube Tabs opened in the background also causes memory pressure issues.

On Desktop, Chrome and Firefox is so far ahead of Safari.

I have a macbook pro, an imac and a mac mini that are all in good working order and in use for various things but they all have the same problem: They can't run the latest macOS because they're too old.

So, my wish for any new macOS is support for older devices. That won't happen because it makes little commercial sense so instead I plan to install linux on them all but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

They may be truly too old, but if you haven't looked at OCLP, give it a shot on the old Macs.

Wow! That's amazing! All of my devices are supported. Thanks very much for this.

I would like to finally have SMB support which doesn't eventually crap out and require a reboot. Some of us do still have to interact with Windows shares.

> 3. Clipboard history

It's called the pasteboard on macOS and has been since NeXTSTEP. The way they work is a little different IIRC.

Missed a basic one: ability to assign names to workspaces. I use an idiotic workaround using stickies, this seems to be the only solution.
