100mile mean distance to critical failure is an interesting number. It's long enough to create multiple, fantastic looking demos of FSD. Impressive enough to convince folks that we are almost there. But it's at least 4 orders of magnitude shy of the performance you'd need to take the steering wheel out of the vehicle.

Given the current rate of improvement it's hard to see how the remaining 4 orders of magnitude will be solved in a reasonable time frame, without a radical reimagining of their entire tech stack.
