I want people to know that this is just 1 guy his opinion and not a fact. Most of his arguments are valid but can also be debunked. It always comes down to opinion, it's very difficult to calculate the effects of creating new people that live ~80 years while not knowing what is going to happen in the next 80 years.
Another opinion is that nothing matters, in the end, our sun will die and and all life will stop existing. So arguing about whether to have kids or not, is waste of time. Do as you like. But then again... What about the journey?
The discussion can go on and on, in the end, it comes down to opinion.
He is influencing smart people to not have kids though so encouraging an idiocracy scenario. And we might need the smart kids to invent new ways out of global warming.
All the kids smart enough to invent new ways out of climate change have been born. They don't matter. Adding more won't change anything but increase the amount of smart kids suffering from climate change.
It's strange to see you downvoted. I can't understand why anyone would treat RMS as anything but entertainment and occasionally curious ideas. I'd never take serious life advice from him.
No doubt about that. However, he is by far not the only person to do so and have terrible life skills (in the sense that others should emulate them), e.g. Grothendieck, Tesla, Gödel..
This is definitely not Stallman's take on "this", "this" being _OP's feelings_ or maybe how to deal with regret generally, not whether having children or not is or isn't a good idea.
