This is an excellent post and I'm excited that my post on handling CSVs in AWK[1] at least somewhat inspired it.
Some responses here are missing the idea that csvquote enables the use of CSV files with standard UNIX tools like AWK, head and so on. If you are building some data processing pipeline then converting to a binary format makes sense, but I'm not sure that is where tools like this shine either. It's for a different case.
