Texas is a quasi fascist state at this point. I wouldn’t hold your breath about Greg Abbott coming to the rescue. This type of interaction with their constituents is common now.

You can still get old Mac minis for less than that, which have more memory and can run Debian. Probably best performance per dollar hardware available on the used market

80 euro equivalent seems to provide a 2014 Mac Mini with 4GiB of RAM and half a TB of storage over here. Doesn't come with a touch screen, though, and carrying around a PSU for the thing is also a massive pain. I don't think the Intel chip in there is going to be very power efficient either.

2014 mac mini doesn't have an external power supply, it just takes a standard figure-8 ac cord directly.

M1s? Really?

No, pre silicon unfortunately. But this was a couple years ago, so who knows what the market is now.

You seem to fall into the same set of criticisms as everyone who’s bearish about ai. It’s somehow so powerful that we can’t handle the ramifications. Meanwhile, it’s a waste of money and doesn’t do anything. You have to pick a criticism and stick with it. Otherwise, it’s just angst-driven noise.

My nest thermostat disagrees with your optimism.

By that logic, you should blame the people that use meta’s products.

I DO make fun of people who use Instagram for "news".

All these bills about age verification have nothing to do with protecting kids. This is just an easier pill for folks that aren’t privacy minded to follow. In the end, all your online activity and offline activity (flock cameras) will be tracked, because it gives our politicians and national security apparatus the type of power they crave.

This like many other attempts at this type of thing don’t understand the in distribution vs out of distribution aspect of ml models. Using something the model has the most training on will have the best outcomes. A new handcrafted programming language will perform significantly worse than a poorly thought out programming language that is widely used. Everything is going to revert to the mean as llms continue to progress.

I guess this is the era of no shame. I know people should realize this project is inherently insecure and that it’s likely you will get hacked if you use it. But why is the creator not even taking any accountability whatsoever —- especially after all the bragging he’s done about shipping fast and not reading any of the code his agents generate?

Please don't cross into personal attack. It destroys what this site is for, and you can always make your substantive points without it.

Didn‘t know that pointing out a lack of accountability is seen as personal attack.

Who wants the fame must also take the blame.

Especially if they create a dangerous tool.

We don't want mobs on HN. There was very clearly a mob dynamic happening in the replies.

Edit: there was another case of this recently:

The point is that mob dynamics do more damage to the community than the threads add value, and protecting the community has to be the high-order bit.

Not clear to me how cursor can remain relevant in the era of agent coding. The main things I care about now are navigation and quick editing. Vanilla VS Code or vim with some extensions does the job for me now.

Does this matter? I think every other agent cli is open source. I don’t even know why Anthropic insist upon having theirs be closed source.
