my mom showed me her phone the other day - she had updated her Whatsapp App and now the search bar has changed from "search your chats" to "search chats or ask Meta AI anything".
I've googled a bit but did not find an option to disable meta AI and also found no definitive answer what Meta AI actually does - if i search for a chat, does it use this chat as context to provide answers? does it run locally (i highly doubt that)? is it only another interface to chat with an llm?
It sure seems that this might be a stepping stone to pipe Whatsapp Messages into Meta AI and thus ignoring e2ee, not sure if it's done already but the line is getting quite thin.
I have whatsapp open on my phone right now. There is blue-pink button on the home screen in the lower right corner. If you press it, it switches to a chat that says "Ask Meta AI anything".

Hass.io is homeassistants distribution for raspberry pi (and I think other devices as well) which runs docker and home assistant itself.
The plugins allow to extend homeassistant with standalone software e.g. MariaDB or mosquitto.
Those programs aren't part of or written for homeassistant but are accessed through network.
They aren't suing the German Government because they say it's responsible for Global Warming, they're suing because the German Government publicly announced Goals for CO2 reduction till 2020 by 40% which they failed to deliver by a wide margin.
By the way the scientific consensus is that CO2 is the biggest contributor to global Warming, proven time and time again.
Yes, water vapor is a contributor - but at an equilibrium rate determined by the temperature! In the narrow band of temperature we live in, increases in CO2 drive an increase in vapor which magnifies their effect.

Agreed that the point of science isn’t consensus. It’s ok.
They have two different privacy solutions implemented in Android 6 (marshmallow):
The first one is comparable to iOS' model - the app must ask for permission on first access. If the user denies said access, the app gets this information.
Ghe second solution is aimed at apps designed for older Android versions, if the user denies access, the app gets empty data back (e.g. Empty contact lists, no GPS satellite etc).
An app designed for Android 6 should handle negative feedback (disable functions, show a warning/explanation or something else), it shouldn't break. If you don't want to handle this, design for Android <6 and let the system take care of it.
But it should be a difference between permission not granted and no data available, apps should handle these issues differently.

That kind of notification should be done by the permission system itself, perhaps as an icon in the status bar.
This way, you might not have the full conversation on each device - e.g. you write "a" to alice on your phone, turn it off, turn your pc on and receive "what do you mean?" from alice - the conversation is otherwise empty.
That's not a good UX.
You'd have to store the chat history somehow - and thus loose the privacy aspect of not storing it.
They're releasing an android app to compete with Spotify on the family accounts, it's quite likely that at least one member of a family doesn't own an iPhone and uses an android phone. These families would use Spotify (or any other cross platform service) instead of apple music.
